Grandia Saturn English Patch

Yes like i said in the other thread, the saturn version had a noticeably smoother, more consistent frame rate, and sharper image quality and color. The game's engine was designed to take advantage of the saturn's multiprocessor layout, so that's probably why it ported poorly to the psx. Also, in general, the saturn had a higher quality DAC or something, because side by side on the same tv hooked up through super video cables, games that were near identical would always look much sharper and cleaner on saturn (like street fighter alpha).

The hard word yify. Yes like i said in the other thread, the saturn version had a noticeably smoother, more consistent frame rate, and sharper image quality and color. My brother played Saturn Grandia to the end using a freaking bible-thick pile of printed walk-through someone did. I still own the game and have played substantial amounts of both.

Saturn Grandia is far and away superior. The loading is superior, the graphics are more detailed and sharper, and I think that the battles were different in how they loaded (it was SUCH a long time ago, but I think the PSX version loaded a new battlefield for each battle whereas the Saturn version zoomed in on the spot the battle takes place). All I remember is playing the PSX version some time later was that while it was an OK port, the English voices and translation were very well done and the PSX version preserved what made Grandia special. That happy-go-lucky adventure vibe with a colorful cast of characters and doesn't take itself too seriously. The battle system kicked ass too. Rememberance edit: I remember how how I first felt during that initial flyby over the town at the start of the game. That was absoultely incredible at the time and better than any Final Fantasy or any other RPG I have seen before that.

It was amazing. Depends on how you look at it. The game is meant to be light-hearted and fun, so the characters (rightfully) have an over-the-top saturday-morning cartoon vibe, which fits the game. The game is never meant to be serious and any attempt at serious acting would have ruined it IMO. The game is about a bunch of wide-eyed kids going off to find the great adventure.

Simple as that. The voice, from what I remember, captures the 'vibe' of the import Japanese Saturn version (which was itself over-the-top). The voice acting is closer to Lunar Sega CD than to any Final Fantasy. Edit: Then again, I played both versions when they came out. They certainly may not have aged well. Back then, voice acting had a VERY VERY low bar for quality.

Zips-epic’s blog. Saturn Grandia Patch. I will only accept/reply letters in ENGLISH, RUSSIAN and LITHUANIAN. Mar 30, 2001 With Grandia, the English translation is the biggest version difference. If you can understand moonspeak, or you're willing to try a translation guide, you should probably go with the Saturn version just to get a different experience.

The Saturn version also had perspective correct textured floors(the psx version warped), had the vdp2 rendering the water, which looked awful in the psx version, enough vram to render the 2d background images during the ghost ship and other sequences that were actually missing in the psx version. Better voice acting( the english voices are atrocious) Scaling was smoother of the 2d images(psx version was obviously broken into tiles, and scaled very poorly, as evidenced in the intro) Sound quality was 10 times better, the psx version was awfully compressed, and had stactic pops. The bar scene sound was changed in the psx version. Etc, etc, etc. The psx version was fine, if you never played Grandia before and wanted to at least try it in English.

Apparently we are specifically looking for the differences or I must have misread the thread title.

I have both, and I played both as well.I also own the Japanese Psx version, and Saturn digital museum. Your mistaken if you think there is not a huge difference.Just for reference's sake the psx version is a little smoother in some areas where the Saturn version slows down. Psx has true transparencies. Psx also has higher frame rate FMV, missing animation frames in some of the characters, Jpeg compressed battle backgrounds, clipping, and slightly nicer spell effects.

Like I mentioned, it's really good If you have never experienced the Saturn version.
